Your ad should look something like the one on this page and can be type or printed or written in cursive on the front of a 5 X 8 index card.

Parts:

A. Title and author, as shown. Underline or italicize title of the book. You can choose fiction, biography, memoir, or autobiography.

B. Brief, attention-getting praise that says something about the theme or setting of the book, centered and in italics.

C. A very brief summary or precis of the story. Be sure not to tell too much. Never give away the ending. Tell enough, though, that might make the reader of your ad want to read the book.

Here is an example:

The Stone Virgin

by Barry Unsworth

Bewitching, beguiling . . .  Walk the cobblestones of Venice, Italy,

and discover that island city’s astonishing secrets.

Simon Raikes, a young English artisan, is restoring a life-size statue of the Virgin Mary which has decayed in the sultry air of Venice since its creation six hundred years ago. Fascinated by the emerging sensual beauty of the Virgin and the anonymity of its creator, Raikes begins to search for clues that might uncover the identity of the sculptor and the history of his creation. He is unprepared for what he discovers: religious scandal, sacrilegious adultery, untimely and mysterious death.

“A fabulous read. A glimpse into the terrible hungers of the human heart.”  —Joseph Peacock
